Overnight Camping for Adults with SEND

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Under the Stars at The Puddle Project

There’s something truly special about sharing stories by the glow of a campfire, surrounded by laughter, sizzling food, and the feeling of freedom. At The Puddle Project, our overnight camping experiences for adults with SEND are more than just fun – they’re a lifeline for families, and a powerful celebration of independence, belonging, and joy.

A Night to Remember

As the sun begins to set over our inclusive outdoor site, a quiet buzz of excitement starts to build. Sleeping bags are rolled out in the Yurt, and our adult group takes real ownership of setting up their temporary home for the night. For many, it’s a first – and a big step in confidence and independence.

The smell of woodsmoke mixes with fresh dough as our homemade pizzas begin to take shape. Everyone gets stuck in – kneading, rolling, and choosing their favourite toppings before we cook them over the campfire. It’s hands-on, creative, and a delicious reward after a day of activity.

Once the pizzas are gone, a few of the adults enjoy a well-earned drink – always supervised, respectful, and for those who choose to partake. The atmosphere is relaxed and grown-up, allowing individuals to feel included in the kind of social setting many of us take for granted.

Sports, Stargazing and Sharing Stories

Before the stars arrive, we keep active. Boccia tournaments, football, camp games – it’s movement, teamwork, and laughter that helps build bonds between our adults. There’s space to be competitive, space to be silly, and most importantly, space to just be themselves.

When night falls, the campfire takes centre stage. Marshmallows are toasted, hot chocolate brewed, and the stories begin. Some share memories, some dreams, some jokes. It’s in these quiet, honest moments that the magic of The Puddle Project shines – where adults with SEND are truly seen, valued, and heard.

A Breath for Families

While our adults are building confidence and friendships under the stars, back at home, their families are taking a deep breath. Our overnight stays aren’t just about giving our adults independence – they’re about giving their families the chance to rest.

It’s a rare night of uninterrupted sleep, a dinner without stress, and the peace of knowing their loved one is safe, supported, and thriving. Respite isn’t a break from caring – it’s the chance to recharge and continue that care with renewed energy and love.

Waking Up to Warmth

As the morning sun rises over camp, the smell of sizzling sausages and bacon fills the air. Our team serves up fresh bacon and sausage butties, giving everyone a hearty start to the day. It’s a simple pleasure – but one that brings smiles, chatter, and a gentle, joyful start to the morning after the night before.

A Future Full of Possibility

At The Puddle Project, we don’t just create services – we create memories. Our camping nights are just one part of our wider mission: to offer purpose, joy, and opportunity for adults with SEND, in a place where everyone belongs.

Battling Storm Amy – Our Second Camping Trip!

Reading Time: 3 minutesOur second camping trip at The Puddle Project with the Adult Provision was one to remember! Originally planned for 3rd October, we hadn’t realised that Storm Amy was also making her appearance that weekend. But when our adults heard about the weather, their determination only grew stronger
