A Summer of Purpose and Play

The Puddle Adult Provision
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Summer is often seen as a time to relax, but at The Puddle Project, our adults had a different idea. Guided by our core belief that providing opportunities develops social and life skills for supported employment, this summer became a period of incredible growth, community service, and well-earned rewards.

It was a summer of “doing” and the results were truly inspiring.

This year, our adults took on a new and powerful role: they became facilitators and supporters for other families within the SEN community. Over more than three days a week during the summer holidays, they worked with families from Families United, Friends Play, and Wargrave House School. These sessions, which were predominantly made up of HAF and “drop-in” sessions, provided a safe space for SEN families to visit, all thanks to the generous support of the National Lottery Community Fund.

The sessions offered a full sensory experience. Families could enjoy the tranquil benefits of our abundant nature or let off some steam on our brand-new multi-sports pitch. It was a beautiful example of our adults using their skills to directly support others, reinforcing the value of their contribution to the wider community.

It’s never all work and no play! Our adults are always up for a sporting challenge. This summer, they proved their mettle by taking on the might of Kwik Fit in a full-day multi-sports event. They also battled the crown green bowling titans from Monks Sports and Social Club. These sporting showdowns were a chance to develop teamwork, sportsmanship, and the confidence that comes with a good challenge.

The biggest headline of the summer was the launch of our very own micro-enterprise, the Can-Do Crew. This venture continues our ecological theme, focusing on collecting and recycling aluminium cans from the community. In partnership with Novelis, X-Met Metals, and St Helens Skip Hire, the Can-Do Crew is on a mission to raise funds for an all-expenses-paid break next year for our adults.

This project is a powerful embodiment of our “Real Work, Real Skills, Real Impact” philosophy. It provides our adults with invaluable life skills—from community engagement to logistics and teamwork—all while working towards a goal that provides much-needed respite for their families.

The summer’s efforts didn’t go unrewarded. Thanks to the funds raised through their HAF efforts, our adults earned a well-deserved VIP trip to watch Manchester Storm. It’s a testament to the fact that their hard work is valued and celebrated.

The adventures are set to continue, with upcoming trips to the theatre to watch Matilda and a highly anticipated visit to Anfield. While this news might pain any loyal Everton fan (aka me!), it’s proof that their dedication and drive are making their dreams a reality!

This summer, our adults didn’t just pass the time; they built skills, helped others, created a business, and earned incredible experiences. They are proving every day that with the right support, they can achieve anything.
